Clonidine, a a2 adrenoreceptor agonist induces dose dependent catalepsy in mice, which was inhibited by histamine H1 receptor antagonists but not by H2 receptor antagonist. Clonidine releases histamine from mast cells which is responsible for different asthmatic conditions. Roots of Beta vulgaris are sweet, expectorant and tonic, and are useful in psychopathy, cough, asthma and inflammation. In present investigation methanol extract of Beta vulgaris at doses 100 and 150 mg/kg, i.p. were evaluated for antihistaminic activity using clonidine induced catalepsy as catalepsy produced by clonidine is mediated by histamine via H1 receptors. Result of present investigation showed that both extract significantly (P<0.001) inhibit clonidine induced catalepsy. Phytochemical study found that presence of carbohydrate, glycosides, flavonoids and tannin.Keywords

Antibiotics are a family of medications used to treat against bacterial, fungal and parasitic infections. Numerous side effects are associated with antibiotic use and extremely high doses of antibiotics can have severe consequences. In present investigation, the approach was to study the effect of Amikacin sulphate on liver and kidney of albino rat. As this drug is reactive and the prolonged 9- days treatment to the albino rat created histopathological changes. It destroy the structure of hepatocytes, sinusoids, endothelial cells, Kuffer cells and bile canalicule in the hepatic cords. Where as in the kidney Bowman's capsule, glomerulus and their capillaries are degenerated. The cell wall of proximal convoluted tubule, loop of Henley's, distal convoluted tubule and collecting tubule are diminished. These effects are dose dependant. Due to this histopathological changes in liver and kidney will not perform their normal physiological functions. The excessive drug may destroy the liver and kidney, affect the physiology and at last leading to death of animal.Keywords

Prazosin Hydrochloride (PRZ) is an antihypertensive agent which is one of the leading marketed drugs in the world. A rapid, specific and economic UV spectrophotometrically method has been developed using methanol as a solvent to determine the PRZ content in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage formulations. At a pre-determined Λmax of 2 nm, it was proved linear in the range of 1 - 5 μg/mL, and exhibited good correlation coefficient (R2=0.999) and excellent mean recovery. This method was successfully applied to the determination of PRZ content in one marketed brand from India and the results were in good agreement with the label claim. The method was validated statistically and by recovery studies for linearity, precision, accuracy, ruggedness, robustness, LOD and LOQ. The obtained results proved that this method can be employed for the routine analysis of PRZ in bulks as well as in the commercial formulations.Keywords

Venlafaxine belongs to a group of Antidepressant with a novel chemical structure. In these studies describes a simple, accurate, precise and cost effective UV-visible spectrophotometric method for the estimation of Venlafaxine hydrochloride in bulk and pharmaceutical formulations. The method is based on the measurement of absorbance of Venlafaxine hydrochloride solution in 0.1N NaOH at 225 nm. The method obeys Beer's Lambert's law in the selected concentration range 5-25 μg/ml in selected solvent. The slope, intercept and correlation coefficient were also calculated. Results of percentage recovery study shows that the method was not affected by the presence of common excipients in tablets. The parameters like linearity, precision, accuracy were studied according to International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines. The developed method was validated in terms of accuracy, precision, linearity, limit of detection and limit of quantitation which proves suitability of proposed method for routine estimation of venlafaxine hydrochloride in bulk and pharmaceutical formulations.Keywords

Glipizide (GPZ) is chemically 1cyclohexyl3 [[p[2(5methylpyrazinecarboxamido)ethyl]phenyl] sulfonyl]urea, used in the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus. The drug is commercially available as tablets for oral administration. In the present work three simple, economical, precise and accurate UV spectrophotometrically methods have been developed for the estimation of GPZ in bulk and pharmaceutical formulation. The present method has been developed in distil 0.1 N NaOH which makes it economic and reproducible. An absorption maximum was obtained at 227 nm. The method is validated using ICH Q2R1 guideline for various parameters like precision, accuracy, etc. Drug follows linearity in concentration range 1-10 μg/ml with correlation coefficient value (r2) 0.999. The accuracy study was performed by recovery checking at three different concentrations i.e., 80%, 100% and 120 %. The % recovery was found well in limit. The precision of the method was studied as an intra-day (% R.S.D. = 0.44 %) and for inter-day (% R.S.D. = 0.22 %) variations. The % R.S.D. value less than 2 indicate that the method is precise. The proposed method is a cost-effective qualitycontrol tool for routine analysis of GPZ in pharmaceutical dosage form.Keywords

In current study, 2,4,5-trisubstituted-1H-imidazoles have been synthesized by starting from acid chloride preparation of various aromatic acetic acids (Ar’) such as 1-naphthyl acetic acid and 4-biphenyl acetic acid, which are used as such for the Friedel–Craft acylation (FCA) using various substituted aromatic nucleus (1a-b) (Ar) such as anisole, thioanisole etc and anhydrous aluminium trichloride to get various ethanone derivatives (2c-d). Methylsulfanyl group is converted into methylsulfonyl by refluxing former with glacial acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide to get ethanone derivatives containing methylsulfonyl moiety (2e-f). These ethanone derivatives (2a-f) were subjected to microwave irradiation for 90 secs to obtain diketones or ethanediones (3a-f). Ethanediones, in presence of acetic acid, ammonium acetate and benzaldehyde offered targeted compounds (4a-f). The structural elucidation of synthesized compounds was done using IR as well as 1H NMR spectroscopy and biological screening for antibacterial action using E. coli and S. aureus and antifungal action using C. albicans and C. fumigatus was done using cup plate agar diffusion method.
